29. Heal
People looked sober in the church that morning, some with
tears running down their cheeks. Black was in order for that event.
It was Anna's grandma funerals today. She was to deliver a
speech about how lovely her grandma had been, and all that bullshit. She stood
before them and waited for silence.
"Many of you knew my grandmother for her kindness with
other people, her devotion to good causes and will to help those in need."
She drew a pause. "Well, there's no better place than her funerals to
state she was only good with strangers. The truth is she was a manipulative,
narcissistic person when I was around her. She never had any good words for
anyone, especially me, and she liked to think she was the center of the universe."
Shock had taken over the people who were looking at her with
big eyes. Only a few held a smile, for they knew the truth of Anna's words.
"I lived with her for many years after the death of my
father, and they were the worst years of my life. Because of her, I became
bitter, angry at everything, and my self-confidence was six feet in the ground.
I moved out because I couldn't take anymore of her game of utter control. If you
think of me as an ungrateful brat, so be it. I won't miss her."
With that, Anna stepped out and returned to sit, her heart
much more lighter now that she had revealed her true sentiments towards her
deceased grandmother. Beside her, her cousin threw his arm around her shoulders
to side-hug her.
"She was a bitch to me too," he said. She smiled
in gratitude, leaning into him.
